Our apple inquiry

Over the past two weeks, we have been learning all about apples. We began by describing them and labeling the different parts of an apple in both French and English.

We learned that there are many different kinds of apples. We had the opportunity to taste four different types of apples: golden delicious, gala, granny smith and mcintosh. We made a graph by choosing our favorite.

Next we made applesauce together as a class. We discussed what items and ingredients we would need to make applesauce. We followed the recipe, step by step and measured all ingredients.

Our next experiment: do apple seeds float or sink? We saved some apple seeds and wondered, if we put them in water, would they sink or float. Some thought they would float because seeds are small. While others thought they would sink because they are hard. We made a graph with our predictions.

To our surprise, half of the seeds sank and half of them floated.
